You want to go to Korea but you don’t know when to go? Here is an overview of the seasons in South Korea.

Winter

Cold and dry, winter starts at the end of November and lasts until the beginning of March. It is dominated by flat winds coming from Siberia, loaded with dust. The south of the peninsula suffers less severe winters. Sometimes there can be snow in the capital. Temperatures are very low, ranging from 0° to -10°C.

My opinion: I strongly advise you not to visit Korea during winter, unless if you want to go to the mountains.

Tips: Don’t hesitate to buy thermo-heating clothes and patches that will warm up your little but cold ones.

Spring

Spring does not last long in Korea but it is really pleasant because the air is fresh and the days are often sunny. The east coast gets the most rain. It starts in March and ends in May, when temperatures rise sharply in preparation for summer. Temperatures are between 8° and 19°C.

My opinion : It is during this period that the cherry trees start to bloom. If you want to enjoy the sun and the flowers, late March-early April is the best time to go.

Tips : The sun is very hot even at this time of the year, so don’t hesitate to bring sunscreen, a hat and glasses.

Summer

Summer begins in June and ends in August. The air is hot, humid and often heavy. It is easy to go swimming. However, it is also the rainy season in the country. It rains very often and there can also be the presence of typhoons. Temperatures can easily reach between 30° and 35°C.

My opinion : You can go to Korea at this time if you want to go to festivals like the water fight or if you go to the beach or Jeju. Apart from these places, it is almost impossible to visit the region without being completely soaked or flooded.

Tips : Humidity means mosquitoes! Don’t forget to buy mosquito repellent. In case of heavy rain, bring a good pair of plastic flip-flops and an umbrella.

Autumn

Just like spring, autumn in Korea enjoys mild weather. The sun is shining and the mild wind allows us to visit the country in optimal conditions. Moreover, the rainy season is finally coming to an end. Concerning the temperatures, like spring, they can vary between 8° and 22°C.

My opinion : Autumn is one of the ideal season if you want to visit Korea. You will be able to admire the beauty of the autumn wildlife but also have the chance to participate in many festivals. However, this is also one of the reasons why Korea is very touristy at this time of the year so if you don’t want to be with a lot of people, go for the spring.

Tips : Take light clothing and good hiking boots to walk through the parks and forest.

Now that you know all about the seasons, all you have to do is choose your favorite time to visit Korea.

See you next week, Bye !
